In this part of ‘Rootnatural Preekend Skin Ritual’, we’re getting the basics right with some feel-good rituals, and as usual, we promise to keep it short, sweet and oh-so-simple!

Step 1: Wash/Cleanse and Rinse
Any skin care routine starts with a Earth Reserve Mild Facewash Collection or a good cleanser. Everything that follows next in this blog is part of a non-negotiable routine which ultimately means you must be very careful and assertive about it to yourself (do not let laziness kick in!).
When choosing a face wash, make sure you select the ones free from parabens, sulphates, phosphates and any synthetic fragrances or colours. Wash your face at least twice a day using a good face wash that suits your skin, and keep doing that every morning and night before you go to sleep.
Gently massage the face wash in circles on your face using your fingertips for 15 seconds, rinse it off and pat dry with a towel. (Remember, gentle is the mantra when it comes to skincare)
Pro tip: If you have dry and sensitive skin, use your cleanser or face wash only at night and rinse your face in the morning.

Step 2: Amp Up with Some Toner
Now, a toner is not something that you NEED exactly. You can rock your skincare routine without it too. However, if you aim to wipe off the debris, dirt and dust from your face or refresh it, infusing a toner in your regime once in a while would not harm you. Apply some toner on a cotton pad/ball to dampen it (not soak it) and wipe it on your face and neck. You can also directly spray the toner of your face for an extra dose of hydration! The toner will hydrate your skin, tighten your pores, absorb skincare products much more effectively and prevent breakouts.
Pro tip: Toner with salicylic acid for acne-prone skin and glycerin or hyaluronic acid for dry, sensitive skin.

Step 3: Slay it with a Face Serum
The star of the routine - a serum! Face serums containing gold-level Vitamin C can have glittery effects on your skin. No kidding! Skin experts highly recommend getting Vitamin C in skincare routines across all age groups. A serum protects and treats existing skin woes by reversing significant damages caused to the skin by the sun and pollution. Just pump 2-3 drops on your face and massage the serum in (let it sink in…) in circles. Don’t neglect the neck. Do it religiously every morning and night before you sign off for the day and see how your skin glows with all the love and attention.

Step 4: Strengthen Skin Barriers with a Moisturiser
Heavy formulas such as a skin moisturiser come in next. The above steps prepare you for base skin protection. Unless you have dry skin, you can easily opt for gel-based moisturisers that quickly get absorbed by your skin. Cream-based moisturisers are ideal for folks with dry skin. Apart from this, also check what your moisturiser comprises. Moisture retention is best enabled by ceramides or hyaluronic acid. Ensure your moisturiser has any or both of these. Apply every morning and night in sufficient amounts and massage it in circles into the skin.

Step 5: Shine Like the Sun with a Sunscreen
We’re going, being honest to you. If you don’t wear sunscreen, the above steps make zero sense. As much as we love a bright, sunny day, the sun rays can cause considerable damage to the skin. So, the above steps are not working if your skin is not protected from the sun. Premature skin aging, skin discolouration and skin cancer are some skin woes that the sun can cause. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, depending on your skin type.
