Being comfortable with a skincare routine can take time and we understand that changing it can be troublesome. But there are reasons as to why you need to change it or bring some changes to the routine and they are listed below.
When in doubt, throw it out
First things first, check the products’ expiry date. It is possible that the product is working for you but has passed the expiry date. If you are still using the expiry products, then it will not show the results for which you are using it for and there is also a possibility that it has an adverse effect on your skin.
Using the same products for a long time
Your skin also changes from time to time. If you are using the same products since school time, then you need to reconsider. As you go out in the real world, you get exposed to more skin aggressors like pollution which will have an impact on your skin. Even if you feel that the products you have works best for you, changing them can show a difference on your skin.
The zits are still attacking your face
When bacteria and sebum have not been cleansed properly because the cleanser or face wash that you are using is failing to cleanse your face. The job of any cleanser is to remove dirt and give you a clean feeling. If you feel dry and patchy after using a face wash, it’s time to change it. Also extra purifying face wash can rip off the skin of its natural oil and in turn produce more oil which will cause breakouts.
Which product is the culprit?
When you feel your skin is tight and dry, your products are not working and it is time to change the skincare routine immediately. Your products are supposed to soothe and calm your skin, no matter which skin type it is. It should not cause trouble, if not giving benefits. If you are not sure which product is irritating your skin, then start from square one and replace the products one by one and see which one is the guilty one.
Tight, stingy and dry skin
Your skin needs hydration be it dry, oily, sensitive or combination skin. Certain cleansers and toners are alcohol based and instead of providing nourishment they leave the skin dry and flaky. Similarly, your moisturizer might not be powerful enough to moisturize your skin. Try different combinations to keep skin hydrated like pair moisturizer with a few drops of serum which will provide that extra hydration boost.
Skincare routine should change according to the seasons
Whatever your skin type is, it will react differently to changes in climate. It is advisable to change your skincare routine every 3 to 4 months, according to the seasons. Sometimes, even making small changes to your moisturizer in winters and opting for a heavier one or getting a deeply cleansing cleanser for summers and upping your SPF game can make sure your skin remains healthy.
You have entered into a new era
As time goes by, your skin needs extra love and attention and there are changes that you will notice in your skin. Only a face wash or moisturizer will not suffice to make your skin look incredible. You may have to use a facial oil or serum for that extra glow. If you are in your 30s and have not started your skin routine yet, it’s time that you start to reap the rewards in future.
When it comes to skincare, less is more
It is possible that the 10 steps Korean skincare routine may not work for your skin. Applying boosters, serums, masks etc. may not work as well for you as you expected it to! “Don’t overdo skincare! The simpler, the better,” says Dr Sethi. You can re-evaluate your skin by getting a fresh consultation from your dermatologist. They can give suggestions on which products to keep using and which one to eliminate.
